Neath fall to heavy aggregate defeat
NEATH'S hopes of a Europa League comeback were ended as Norwegians Aalesund completed a comprehensive 6-1 aggregate win.
The Eagles' chances were dashed with a 4-1 first leg defeat and they were beaten by two second-half goals in the return tie at The Gnoll.
But the hosts were the better side for spells during the first half and created by far the better chances, but were guilty of missing golden opportunities.
Luke Bowen had penalty appeals turned down when he went down inside the box and then headed narrowly wide from a deep cross before smashing a fierce drive just wide of the far post.
Home keeper Lee Kendall kept out a fierce 25-yarder from Jonathan Parr, but Neath responded when Lee Trundle’s free-kick from just outside the area forced keeper Jonas Sandqvist to scramble across his line.
Craig Hughes slid his shot wide from the rebound when it seemed impossible to kiss and the Eagles paid the price when, early in the second-half, Michael Barrantes netted.
Magnus Olsen then added another 12 minutes from time to wrap-up a flattering scoreline.
