Stebonheath Park will host the Welsh Cup final between TNS and Carmarthen
SAINTS and their fans face a 114-mile trek to Llanelli for the Welsh Cup final, after the FAW nominated Stebonheath Park as the venue for the showpiece.
In contrast, Carmarthen is only 23 miles down the road, but there was little choice for the administrators after first choice Latham Park and also Park Avenue were ruled out.
Newtown regretfully turned down the chance to again stage the final, because essential ground maintenance and reseeding starts on 3 May to prepare the pitch for European games as early as the middle of June.
Aberystwyth could not offer the facilities required for a final because the clubhouse was badly damaged by fire at the end of last year.
Stebonheath Park staged the 2002/3 final between Barry Town and Cwmbran with some success and is liked by the TV companies, because it has a dedicated and fully equipped media centre.
The ground also offers the best spectator facilities in the Welsh Premier.
