Aber need penalties to see off Llandudno
Aberystwyth v LlandudnoABERYSTWYTH scraped into the quarter-finals on penalties against resilitent Huws Gray Alliance outfit Llandudno.
With the scores level at the end of 120 minutes, Tudno missed their fourth kick in the penalty shoot-out and Andy Parkinson kept his cool to steer the Black & Greens home.
Wyn Thomas had come close to giving the home side an early lead when his header was tipped over the bar by keeper Andy Rooney and Thomas was again in the thick of the action when his overhead volley from a Ricjy Evans chip was scrambled away to safety.
But, after Joe Morgan's 20-yarder had fizzed just over the bar, the visitors claimed first blood when Aneurin Thomas conceded a free-kick and Lee Jones scored from the set-piece.
Llandudno should have doubled their advantage 10 minutes later when a cross from the right found an unmarked Robbie Knowles who volleyed wide at the back post.
Aber camped in the opposition half after the break and Evans crashed a volley against a post, but home keeper Steve Cann needed to us his feet to deny Knowles.
The equaliser finally arrived on 76 minutes with 16-year-old sub Alex Samuel finishing from close range a minute after coming off the bench.
Parkinson for Aber and Knowles for Llandudno could have won it in normal time, with Rooney also denying Geoff Kellaway.
