Griffiths ends City's cup hopes
Bangor v LlanelliLLANELLI repeated their Welsh Cup final success by knocking Bangor out of the competition at the first hurdle this time around.
City's failure to handle the threat of marksman Rhys Griffiths was their downfall, despite racing into a first-minute lead when Kyle Wilson evaded three tackles before slotting past keeper Ashley Morris.
It did not take the Reds long to respond, defender Lee Surman heading past Lee Idzi.
Bangor enjoyed the better of the play and restored their lead on 21 minutes when Les Davies chipped the ball over Morris before running-on to tap home.
Sion Edwards should have increased Bangorís lead in the 23rd minute but he could only shoot straight at Morris and Wilson fired a volley inches wide of the far post, with Davies heading over the bar from close range.
But the Reds were handed a chance to level again when Michael Johnston fouled Chris Venables and Griffiths slotted home the resulting penalty.
Despite Wilson missing a golden opportunity to restore City's lead, it was the visitors who took charge before half-time when Griffiths headed home a Jason Bowen free-kick.
Llanelli upped their game in the second half and, after Craig Williams had spurned a chance to add to the tally, Griffiths coolly placed the ball past Idzi from Bowen's delivery for his 21st hat-trick in Llanelli colours.
Andy Legg strengthened the Reds' backline with a substitution and prevented Bangor from creating any further chances of note to record a famous win.
