Bangor respond to County shock
BANGOR feared the unthinkable as they trailed 3-1 to second favourites Haverfordwest in a Farrar Road mudslog, but responded magnificently.
Strikes on 69, 74 and 75 minutes set up the expected outcome and a fifth goal near the end confirmed an outing to Port Talbot in round five.
Bangor got their opener on 11 minutes from Dave Morley but it was early in the second spell that Haverfordwest sparkled and hinted at pulling off the shock of the season.
Neil Thomas prompted thoughts that mission impossible could be achieved, when he toe-poked the 51st-minute equaliser, after home keeper Paul Smith spilled a cross.
Then, after Bangor’s Chris Roberts had cleared his line from Lee Hudgell, County had the audacity to gain the lead through Jack Christopher on 56 minutes, with a far post header.
Danger man Christopher pounced again on the hour and County were euphoric and imagining a major coup.
But Bangor’s Powell reacted to the impending crisis by drafting two recent signings off the bench, Michael Jukes and Darren Moss, to provide fresh legs and fresh ideas. Jukes repaid the confidence straight away by squeezing the inspirational reply goal and that was followed by Les Davies powering the equaliser on 74 minutes.
The momentum was Bangor’s from then on and, although Smith saved with his legs from Tom Ramasut, the raids that mattered were at the other end, producing winning goals by Alan Bull on 75 and Moss on 89.
