MIDFIELDER Damien Allen has become the first signing of the summer for Newtown manager Chris Hughes.

The 31-year-old product of Stockport County's centre of excellence who made 57 League appearances for the club before a loan spell at Royal Antwerp in Belgium.

Allen then joined Morecambe in August 2007 and made 20 appearances and, after a spell with FC Halifax Town, signed a one-year deal with Bury in July 2009, but failed to break into the first team reckoning.

He arrived at Colwyn Bay where he was made captain and spent 16 months before being snapped-up by Bangor City and went on to spend seven years with the Citizens before moving to Aberystwyth Town in January 2018.

Allen has scored 11 goals from 154 (+6) Welsh Premier appearances.
