CONNAH'S Quay claimed second spot in the Welsh Premier League table with a 1-0 Sunday afternoon win away at Barry Town United.

All that separated the sides at the end of a closely-contested encounter was a 10th-minute goal from George Horan, who headed home from a Matty Owen corner kick.

Nomads had the ball in the net again just after the break through Michael Wilde, who was adjudged to have fouled keeper Mike Lewis and, moments later, the hosts were close to an equaliser when Chris Hugh hit an upright and Drew Fahiya blasted a close-range effort wide.

Ten minutes from time, Horan rattled the crossbar with another header from a corner and Ryan Wignall forced a good save from keeper Mike Lewis, while visiting keeper John Danby pushed away a Louis Gerrard shot to ensure the Nomads moved within three points of current leaders The New Saints.
