CONNAH'S Quay have signed 6' 6" striker Melford Simpson following a successful trial period on Deeside.

Simpson has previously played for Hayes and Yeading, Haywards Heath, Shoreham FC and Aylesbury United.

He was at the centre of a controversy while with Haywards Heath, who missed-out on promotion last season after a points deduction for playing Simpson while he was suspended.

"Melford has signed for the club and will be with us initially until January," says Nomads' manager Andy Morrison. "There have been times this season where I have felt we have looked a bit lightweight in our recent games against Carmarthen and Bala - we lacked the physical identity that my teams have always had and Melford will add that presence, height and strength to our squad and help Mike Wilde with the role of our number nine."
