BANGOR City put down a marker for the new Welsh Premier season with a comprehensive 4-2 defeat of reigning champions The New Saints.

Record signing Brayden Shaw got the Citizens off to a flier in the fifth minute when he headed home from Anderson Cayloa's pinpoint cross, but TNS were level on 14 minutes as Connell Rawlinson netted a rebound from a Wes Fletcher free kick.

Two minutes later, City restored their lead through Gary Taylor-Fletcher, who nodded home a Shaw cross, but Jamie Mullan netted from close range soon afterwards to level again.

City were back in front on the hour when Taylor-Fletcher scored from Anthony Miley's pass before a superb second goal from Shaw in the 75th-minute put them in the driving seat. And, when Cayola was brought down he dusted himself down before scoring from the penalty spot to sentence the champions to their heaviest defeat for 10 years.

Bala Town beat Newtown 3-0 at Maes Tegid, Chris Venables putting the hosts in front on the half hour. Debutant Evan Horwood added another with a piledriver free-kick two minutes later and Mike Hayes added a third in the second half.

Prestatyn Town's return to the top flight ended in a rude awakening and a 4-0 home defeat at the hands of Connah's Quay. Jay Owen netted the first from a deflected Ryan Wignall cross and Callum Morris added another on the stroke of half-time when keeper Carl Jones failed to hold a Wignall cross.

Michael Wilde extended the visitors' lead on 61 minutes and sub Matty Williams added a late fourth goal to compound the Seasiders' misery.
