WELSH interest in the Irn-Bru Cup was ended as The New Saints went down to a 4-1 semi-final defeat at St Mirren.

Leading through Ryan Brobbel's excellent 40th-minute strike into the far corner, the Saints saw the game turned on its head during five eventful second half minutes.

Stephen McGinn produced an even better shot than Brobbel's to leave Harrison with no chance and, four minutes later, TNS were reduced to 10-men. Steven Saunders was sent-off for a poor challenge on McGinn and Stephen Mallan drove the resulting free kick low from 25 yards to defeat Harrison and hand the Buddies the lead.

John Sutton missed a chance to add to the lead after an Aeron Edwards handball when his penalty was easily saved by Harrison but, moments later, the striker converted from a Kyle Magennis cross. And the hosts added a fourth in stoppage time when Rory Loy turned home a Mallan free kick.
