CURRENTLY bottom of the Welsh Premier League, Newtown have been drawn at home to runaway league leaders and holders The New Saints in the third round of the Welsh Cup.
It is the third consecutive season that the Robins have met the Saints, but that is the only all-Welsh Premier tie of the round, but last season's beaten finalists, Airbus UK Broughton, have been handed a tough assignment away to Welsh Leaguers Penybont, who are managed by former WPL striker Rhys Griffiths. It is an opportunity for revenge for the south Walians, who were beaten 2-0 at the Aifrield by Airbus at the same stage of the competition three years ago, after being reinstated when their previous round opponents Caldicot were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player.
Also given a hard away trip are Carmarthen Town, who travel to face Huws Gray Alliance outfit Caernarfon Town at the Oval. Llandudno will host current Welsh League leaders Goytre FC at Maesdu Park while Ton Pentre, who are also going well in the second tier down south, are at home to Bangor City.
Aberystwyth Town will host Holywell Town at Park Avenue in a repeat of the 2014 semi-final, which the Seasiders won 3-1. WPL new boys Cardiff Met have a home draw against Porthmadog, while Bala Town will host Caldicot Town at Maes Tegid.
Rhyl will host Penrhyncoch with Cefn Druids at home to Llantwit Major and Gap Connah's Quay welcoming Goytre United to the Deeside Stadium.
