BALA Town and Cefn Druids both failed to progress beyond the qualifying round of the Europa League.

The Lakesiders faced a huge task after a 3-0 first leg defeat to Tre Fiori and were only able to score once in the home leg against the San Marinese minnows, who won a European tie for the first time ever.

Bala went close on several occasions before the breakthrough finally arrived on 77 minutes when Steven Tames back-heeled for Nathan Burke to scuff a shot from 15 yards out. Tames then had the ball in the net but was denied by an offside flag.

Druids went down 1-0 away to FK Trakai of Lithuania, whose goal came from a first-half penalty scored by former Everton midfielder Diniyar Bilyaletdinov.

Jonathan Taylor came agonisingly close to taking the game into extra-time but his header from a Naim Arsan cross went just wide.
