DESPITE finishing as Welsh Premier runners-up, Bangor City will not be allowed to compete in the Irn-Bru Cup as a result of failing to gain a Tier 1 licence.

The FAW has confirmed that, instead, third-place Connah's Quay Nomads will join The New Saints as the Welsh entrants. The Nomads were beaten 2-1 away at Dumbarton in the second round of the competition last season.

Two English sides - Sutton United and Boreham Wood of the National League - will also participate next season as well as Crusaders and Coleraine from Northern Ireland and Bohemians and Bray Wanderers from the Irish Republic.
