ABERYSTWYTH Town set-up a Welsh Cup final meeting with Connah's Quay by beating Newtown 2-1 in the semi-final at Bala's Maes Tegid.

The Seasiders took the lead on 23 minutes when John Owen crossed from the right and Declan Walker headed home.

The lead was doubled eight minutes after the break as Robins' keeper Dave Jones brought down Ryan Wade and Walker made no mistake from the resulting spot kick for his second goal of the game.

Newtown got back into the contest after 76 minutes as Ashley Young handled Joe Kenton's cross and Nick Rushton despatched the penalty to reduce the arrears.

But the Robins were unable to force an equaliser and it took a good one-handed save from Jones to deny Owen a third goal for the victors while Malcolm Melvin failed to beat the keeper in a stoppage time one-on-one.
