TWO Welsh Premier clubs fell to lower league opposition in the third round of the Welsh Cup.
Beaten last season by Llanfair United, Cefn Druids were scalped 3-2 by third-tier Llanrhaeadr YM at the Recreation Ground despite leading 2-1 in the 83rd-minute after a second goal of the afternoon from James Davies. But the hosts levelled two minutes later as Iwan Matthews completed a brace and Khyam Wyton grabbed the winner two minutes from time.
Prestatyn Town fell 3-0 at home to Ruthin Town of the Huws Gray Alliance whose goals came courtesy of Gwion Owen, a Llyr Morris penalty and Garmon Hafal with Myles Hart red-carded for the Seasiders on 55 minutes.
But the performance of the day came from the lowest-ranked side in the competition, Penydarren Boys & Girls Club, who made the long journey north to Llandudno Junction and thumped the bottom club in the Alliance 4-0 with a hat-trick from Christopher Owens and a goal from Ben Jones.
Cup holders Bala Town were thrashed 4-0 at Aberystwyth with Declan Walker, Jon Owen, Joe Phillips and Luke Borrelli inflicting a second heavy defeat in eight days on the Lakesiders.
Pontypridd Town stunned Haverfordwest County with a 3-1 win, goals from Andy Smith, Adam Johns and Nyran Bird with Kristian Speake responding for the Bluebirds, who had defender Sam Rodon sent-off 20 minutes from time.
There were no surprises elsewhere, although Cwmamman United staged a late comeback to lose just 4-3 away to Bangor City whose goals came from Daniel Gosset 22, Anderson Cayola 50, James Demetriou and Brayden Shaw. Ammanford also did well to level against Carmarthen Town after trailing 2-0 to goals from Kieran Lewis and Liam Thomas. A Matthew Fisher penalty and a Gavin Jones goal got the home side back in the game before Thomas settled the Old Gold's nerves with a 71st-minute winner.
Connah's Quay eased past Cwmbran Celtic 3-0 thanks to Michael Bakare, Matty Owen and John Oyenuga while Newtown beat Guilsfield 2-0 in the mid-Wales derby courtesy of Neil Mitchell and Jamie Reed.
Marc Williams claimed a brace as Llandudno beat Gresford Athletic 4-0 while Cardiff Met emerged 3-1 winners at Penybont with Eliot Evans, Rhys Thomas and Dan Spencer the scorers.
In a clash of Alliance and Welsh League high-flyers, Airbus beat Goytre 3-1 in extra time thanks to a penalty from debutant Damase Kiwanda while Flint Town United won 1-0 at neighbours Buckley Town with a goal from Alan Bull against one of his former clubs.
Porthmadog hit seven at home to Panteg, Joe Chaplin leading the way with four goals in a 7-2 success while, on Friday night, Alex Darlington scored a hat-trick as last year's runners-up The New Saints cruised past Penrhyncoch 6-0.
