THE New Saints kept the Welsh flag flying in the Irn-Bru Cup as they repeated last season's success against Livingston.

But, after a comfortable 3-0 away win last season, this time the game went to a penalty shoot-out using the ABBA system in which TNS prevailed 6-5. Home keeper Paul Harrison saved Livi's first penalty taken by Dylan Mackin, but opposite number Neil Alexander then kept out Ryan Brobbel's effort.

Harrison saved from Alan Lithgow but Simon Spender spurned a chance to win it when his spot kick was saved. Keeper Harrison then stepped up to the mark and made no mistake before Scott Pittman ballooned his penalty high over the bar to hand victory to TNS.

Earlier, the Saints had taken a 20th-minute lead when Aeron Edwards stopped to send a diving header into the far corner from a Robbie Parry free-kick. But the Lions got the equaliser on 64 minutes when sub Dylan Mackin headed home a right win cross.
