THE Irn-Bru Cup could add teams from the League of Ireland, following the success of the current cross-border project.

Bala Town and The New Saints have competed in this season's competitions alongside two clubs from Northern Ireland and the SPFL have now made an approach to Irish sides.

According to STV, the winners and runners up of the Irish Football League would be invited to take part in the tournament as early as next season.

The changes could see Welsh Premier sides facing the likes of Dundalk, Cork City, Shamrock Rovers or Drogheda United.

TNS have progressed to the semi-finals this season and will take on St Mirren for a place in the final.
