HNK Rijeka overwhelmed The New Saints 5-1 at Park Hall to cruise into the third qualifying round of the Champions League.

Leading 2-0 from the first leg, the Croatians dominated possession once again, with TNS restricted to a couple of set pieces, before unlocking the home defence with a simple goal four minutes before the break as Heber dos Santos set-up Florentin Matei.

With the tie effectively over, the visitors ran riot after half time, Mario Gavranovic adding another before a cracking shot from Alexander Gorgon. Stefan Ristovsk added a fourth before Adrian Cieslewicz got TNS on the scoresheet with a fine goal.

But Rijeka had the last word as Gavranovic grabbed his second of the night and Matei went close to a sixth when he hammered a shot against the crossbar in stoppage time.

The defeat means that TNS are knocked out of Europe at this stage of the Champions League for the sixth consecutive year.
