EUROPA FC stunned The New Saints, winning the first leg of the Champions League first qualifying round 2-1 at Park Hall.

The Gibraltar minnows, making their debut in the competition, took an early lead and added a second goal on 78 minutes to leave the Welsh champions with a tough test if they are to progress in the second leg in Portugal next week.

It took just eight minutes for Kike Gomez to prise open the home defence and leave Alex Quillo with an easy close-range tap-in. The hosts were unable to find their usual rhythm and Adrian Cieslewicz scuffed his shot when keeper Javi Munoz failed to deal with a Ryan Brobbel corner.

A Yahaya shot was tipped over the bar by keeper Paul Harrison after a good whipped free kick and an excellent Liam Walker shot from outside the box dipped just over the bar.

The Saints levelled just before the break when Scott Quigley flicked the ball past his marker before firing a superb volley past Munoz.

As the second half progressed, TNS started to dominate but were hit by a sucker punch 12 minutes from time when Walker found Gomez, who curled an excellent shot beyond the grasp of Harrison and into the far corner. And it could have been worse as a shot from substitute Carreno hit the home bar in the closing minutes.
