THE New Saints have been drawn to play FC Europa of Gibraltar in the first qualifying round of the Champions League.

Last season, Europa won the 2017 Rock Cup, completing a domestic treble of Pepe Reyes Cup, Gibraltar Premier Division and Rock Cup for the first time in their history.

It is the first time that the Gibraltarians in have appeared in Europe's top competition, but they have previous experience in the Europa League.

They made their debut in 2014, losing 4-0 on aggregate to Vaduz of Liechenstein and crashed out 9-0 the following season to Slovakian Slovan Bratislava.

But a first success on the European stage came last year when Europa beat FC Pyunik of Armenia 3-2 on aggregate and they lost just 2-0 to AIK of Sweden in the second qualifying stage.

TNS are scheduled to be at home in the first leg with dates to be confirmed and, should they progress, they will face HNK Rijeka in the second qualifying round, who beat Prestatyn Town 8-0 on aggregate in the 2013/14 Europa League.

Since then, the Croatians have twice appeared in the Europa League group stages, recording impressive home performances against Sevilla (2-2), Feyenoord (3-1) and Standard Liege (2-1). But they crashed out 5-2 on aggregate to Aberdeen in 2015.
