TON Pentre have appointed Lee Phillips as first team manager following the recent departure of Dean Morris.

A former Welsh semi-professional international, Phillips spent five years at Cardiff City and also played with Barry Town, Forest Green and Newport.

Phillips won four Welsh Premier League titles, lifted the Welsh Cup on three occasions and has made 13 appearances in UEFA club competitions.

He captained Llanelli to their first Welsh Premier title but left in June 2008 after being offered reduced terms and signed for Port Talbot Town.

Phillips made a shock return to the Reds just 27 days later and then signed for Carmarthen Town in August 2010, completing a career total of 224 (+8) Welsh Premier appearances and scoring 18 goals.

Phillips, 35, was appointed joint manager of Aberaman Athletic in July 2011 and last season reached the quarter finals of the Welsh Cup with the Cynon Valley club.

"The quality of applicants for this role was outstanding and Ton Pentre is delighted to welcome Lee Phillips to Ynys Park," says a spokesperson for the Bulldogs.

"Lee brings to the Bulldogs significant experience in the game and we look forward to his leadership in helping us take the Club to a new level.

"The Bulldogs have huge ambition to return to the top of Welsh League football and the appointment of Lee Phillips is a major step in the right direction."
