Tom RowlandsSTRIKER Tom Rowlands has become Newtown's second signing for the New Year after making a U-turn on a proposed move to Technogroup Welshpool.
'Pool boss Chris Herbert thought he had clinched the signature of the Airbus UK Broughton player, who scored nine goals from 31 (+23) Welsh premier appearances at The Airfield.
"I am very disappointed with how that turned out and will now turn to other targets," says Herbert, after Rowlands had a change of heart and agreed to put pen to paper in the transfer window for the Robins, who signed midfielder Robbie Millington from Bridgnorth Town earlier this week.
The 25-year-old averaged a goal a game for West Cheshire League outfit Heswall FC before joining Connah's Quay in January 2008.
He returned to the Wirral after just two appearances for the Deeside outfit before arriving back in the domestic league with the Wingmakers in 2008/9.
Rowlands left at the end of the season and signed for Druids but, after half a season at Plas Kynaston Lane, he rejoined Airbus in January 2010, but has been frustrated by a lack of first-team opportunities at The Airfield.
"Tom has chosen Newtown ahead of a list of suitors," says Newtown assistant manager Lee Williams.
"I am thrilled to welcome him to Latham Park, he is strong and enthusiastic and really wanted to join Newtown."
