ABERYSTWYTH have moved to replace Mark Jones by signing Darren Thomas from Caernarfon Town in the Huws Gray Alliance.

The 28-year-old has been a prolific goal scorer in the second tier of Welsh football and also has previous Welsh Premier experience with Llangefni Town back in season 2007/8, when he scored 13 goals from 24 (+6) appearances, including two hat-tricks.

"Darren is a player I've worked with at Llangefni Town," says Aberystwyth manager Ian Hughes.

"He has Welsh Premier League experience, however that was a while ago.

"I am delighted to have signed him as he will give us options and flexibility this season. "He's been the best player for the last three seasons in the Cymru Alliance and now Darren wants to prove that he is capable of playing at the highest level of domestic football in Wales.

"He has shown great loyalty to Caernarfon Town as other Welsh Premier League clubs have shown an interest in the past, so it's great to have him on board."

Last season, Thomas scored a notable goal for the Canaries in a Welsh Cup tie against The New Saints.

Since joining Caernarfon from Porthmadog, he has notched 31 Alliance goals from 52 appearances.
