WEATHER permitting, there will be a full programme of Welsh Premier games on Boxing Day and New Year's Day with top six places at stake before the mid-season split arrives in January.

Five points adrift of the sixth spot but with a game in hand, Aberystwyth Town will be hoping to overhaul Newtown or Gap Connah's Quay.

The Seasiders have a festive double against bottom club Haverfordwest County, with a re-arranged fixture at home to Carmarthen Town on Tuesday.

The return of Geoff Kellaway from injury has boosted the hopes of the Black & Greens, who are looking to build on last weekend's 4-0 drubbing of Bangor City.

Newtown have the points in the bag, but face a difficult festive season with games home and away to The New Saints. Although this is a daunting prospect, the Robins have a decent record against the reigning champions in recent times, drawing 0-0 at home and 1-1 away in two of their four meetings last season.

Connah's Quay have surged into the top six since the arrival of Andy Morrison, who faces his former club Airbus UK Broughton over Christmas and New Year. The Wingmakers have won four of their last five outings at the Deeside Stadium, but the Nomads are buoyed by a stoppage-time win at Rhyl on Saturday, although both sides have injury concerns.

Bala Town's already look assured of a place in the Championship Conference and have two games against lowly Rhyl, who were unlucky to lose to the Nomads in their last outing.

Bangor's hopes of a top-six finish all but evaporated at Aberystwyth and they face high-flying Llandudno twice in what will be the first-ever WPL clashes between the north Wales duo. City will be without goalkeeper Connor Roberts, who was sent-off in the Park Avenue defeat.

Port Talbot have also seen their top six hopes disappear as the season has progressed and both they, and festive opponents Carmarthen Town, need points to pull further away from the drop zone.
