Wales v Scotland
Welshpool's Chris Venables goes down under a challenge from Scotland's Clark Bain.
Wales forced to settle for a point
GRAHAM Evans maintained his excellent scoring record for the Welsh semi-pros in the opening game of the Four Nations tournament against Scotland at Rhyl's Belle Vue.
But a 25th-minute goal from the Caersws marksman was cancelled out on the stroke of half-time by a header from Robbie Ross and, despite some sustained second-half attacks, Wales were unable to find a winner.
Although the Scots dominated the opening quarter with Ross going close early on, Rhys Griffiths had the ball in the net on 23 minutes from Llanelli team-mate Craig Jones, only to be ruled offside.
But within minutes, Evans lifted the ball over the head of Kris Niddrie and finished superbly from 15 yards for his eighth goal in a Welsh shirt.
Evans almost added a second but keeper Scott Bennett recovered his composure to claim the ball, with Griffiths and Chris Venables both having snap shots beaten away.
Some poor defending allowed Ross to rise at the far post for the equaliser from Neil McLean's cross before both sides suffered an injury blow early in the second period.
Welsh keeper Ashley Morris and Scotland's Ross were both stretchered-off following a collision, with Haverfordwest's Lee Idzi taking the gloves.
Evans headed over from a Jones cross before the Welsh were denied a strong penalty shout after Chris Venables was upended by Clark Bain.
Evans again went close with sub Chad Bond firing over when well-placed, with Carmarthen's Paul Fowler seeing his snap shot from 30 yards narrowly miss the target.
