THE New Saints surrendered their three-year grip on the League Cup as they went down to a late goal at Newtown.
The Robins mounted a late smash and grab raid to level the tie at 3-3 on aggregate and claim a place in the final on away goals.
With the second leg at Latham Park goal-less with five minutes remaining, young keeper Alex Ramsay fluffed an attempted clearance and Luke Boundford was left with the simplest of chances to take the tie.
The visitors were left to rue a string of missed chances in the first-half and claims that a Craig Jones header on the half hour from Chris Seargeant's cross had crossed the line before being scooped away to safety by keeper Nick Thomas.
Seargeant had earlier hit the crossbar with a 25-yard drive and Marcus Giglio headed narrowly wide of the target before Jones saw his bicycle kick bounce away off an upright.
Newtown went close when Steve Blenkinsop headed over, but had more of the game after the break. Matty Cook's stinging goal-bound drive hit team mate Zac Evans and Aeron Edwards was forced to clear a Jamie Price header off the line.
With little time to recover after the Robins' goal, the Saints mounted a furious finish in which penalty claims for handball were waived away by referee Mark Whitby as TNS were forced to admit defeat.
