| Bucks fail to land Rhyl striker Williams |
| Monday 01 February 2010 |
AFC Telford United have failed in a late bid to prise former Manchester United reserve striker Matty Williams away from Rhyl. Lilywhites Online says that the Conference North Bucks made a determined effort to sign Williams, but the striker is staying put. A regular in the Old Trafford second string during a five-year stint at the club, Wales Under-21 international Williams has since played for Notts County, where he made 26 appearances, Tamworth and Burton Albion before joining Rhyl in July 2008. He has scored 19 goals in 33 Welsh Premier appearances since arriving at Belle Vue. Meanwhile player-manager Greg Strong has made four more signings in the transfer window, bringing-in young defenders Andy Owens and Andy Pearson from Altrincham, as well as former Salford City player Russell Courtney, who can play at centre-half or centre-forward and Joe Dixon, a winger who joins from Lancashire and Cheshire Amateur League side Chorltonians AFC.
