Clubs that wish to participate in the Welsh Premier League must hold the FAW's domestic club licence.

The licence assesses criteria under six main headings and those listed below are graded as 'A' or 'must-have' in order to attain a licence. The full licensing manual can be downloaded from the FAW website.

1. Sporting: Youth & Coaching

  • Approved youth development programme
  • Youth teams from age ranges 10 to 21
  • Annual medical examinations for all players

2. Infrastructure
Approved stadium available for playing Welsh Premier League matches, which provide spectators, media and press representatives with well equipped, well appointed and safe and comfortable stadia:

  • Safety certificate and policy
  • Approved evacuation plan
  • Minimum capacity of 1,500 with at least 500 covered seats which must be tip-up (bench seating prohibited)
  • Safe access (minimum two turnstiles), boundary wall to prevent viewing from outside
  • PA system
  • Smooth and level playing area
  • Minimum 13 seat dugouts
  • Minimum 20 seat dressing rooms for home and away teams
  • Match day office for admin with phone, fax and e-mail
  • Dedicated first-aid room plus first-aid facilities for spectators
  • Minimum 500 Lux floodlights
  • Parking with space for minimum two buses and 10 cars
  • Refreshment facilities in all areas of the ground
  • Emergency lighting system
  • Space for disabled spectators
  • Dedicated TV platform plus two covered commentary positions
  • TV studio
  • Press box with minimum 20 seats equipped with power and phone/modem/wireless connections
  • Outside broadcast van area

3. Legal
Must legally own the stadium or provide written contract for use

4. Personnel and Administration

  • secretary and office with PC, phone, fax
  • general manager
  • finance officer
  • security officer
  • media officer
  • chartered physiotherapist
  • manager with a valid Uefa 'A' licence, or has started an 'A' licence course or meets the recognition of competence
  • head of youth development programme with same qualification requirements as manager
  • youth coach
  • child protection officer

5. Financial

  • Accounts and financial statements
  • No overdue payables from transfer activity, to employees, tax authorities
  • Future financial information

6. Codes Of Practice

  • Children and coach protection
  • Supporters' charter
  • Equity issues
  • Community involvement
  • Fair play
