Tough openers for Flintshire duo

The New Saints v Airbus UK Broughton

THE Welsh Premier League's two Flintshire-based clubs have been handed tough assignments on the first weekend of action which starts on August 17.

Andy Preece's new-look Airbus UK Broughton are away at reigning champions The New Saints, while newly-promoted Gap Connah's Quay travel to Nantporth to face the previous season's champions Bangor City.

Another intriguing pairing on the opening weekend sees seven-times Golden Boot winner Rhys Griffiths wearing his new Port Talbot Town colours at home to Llanelli, the club he left during the close season.

Mark Aizlewood's revamped Carmarthen Town are at home to Aberystwyth managed by Tomi Morgan, who was in charge of the Old Gold last season until being sacked in December.

Prestatyn Town host Afan Lido, while Colin Caton's Bala Town are at home to last season's strugglers Newtown.

S4/C will start its live TV games with Port Talbot v Llanelli.

The festive fixtures see several changes with The New Saints playing Bala, Aberystwyth playing Newtown and Airbus against Gap Connah's Quay in a Flintshire derby.

The first phase is scheduled to end on January 19.
