CONNAH'S Quay and The New Saints both recorded Welsh Premier wins on Friday night to move within a point of early leaders Llandudno.

The Nomads beat Bala Town 1-0 at the Deeside Stadium, taking the lead on the stroke of half-time when a defensive mix-up between keeper and defender allowed Sean Smith to cross from the byline for Michael Wilde to send a diving header past Ashley Morris.

Midway through the second half the hosts were reduced to 10-men as Ryan Wignall was red-carded for his part in a fracas involving several players and the Lakesiders went close to an equaliser when a Chris Venables shot was cleared off the line, but Nomads held out for the three points.

TNS cruised to a 4-0 victory over Cefn Druids with Jamie Mullan opening the scoring after six minutes. But it took the home side until the 59th-minute to increase their lead through Greg Draper, before Chris Seargeant added a third from the penalty spot.
