NEWTOWN manager Chris Hughes has made his first signing of the summer with the aquisition of James Murphy from Airbus UK Broughton.

The 20-year-old was named as the Welsh Premier League's young player of the season in 2015/16 after being promoted from the Wingmakers' Under-19s to score three goals from 17 (+10) WPL appearances.

But the wingman's form dipped in the last campaign, despite making another 18 (+11) appearances.

"He's exciting and he's direct and will take people on," Hughes says. "It's an area we targeted, we lost Craig Williams very early on last season and we wanted to bring someone in of that ilk, a player who will get crosses in the box.

"James is different to what we have already and will offer us a different dimension."
