ANOTHER Newtown player has left Latham Park to join a club in National League North with Alex Fletcher signing for Southport.

Midfielder Alex Fletcher has caught the attention of new Southport boss Alan Lewer who, until recently, was chief scout at Bangor City.

The 20-year-old came through the youth ranks at Shrewsbury Town and, after being released, had a short spell with Ross County before joining AFC Telford United in April 2015.

He moved on to Tividale before signing for Newtown in July 2016 and scored four goals, all against Airbus UK Broughton, from 24 (+6) Welsh Premier appearances last season.

Last week, Newtown's leading scorer Jason Oswell signed for Stockport County, with skipper Shane Sutton joining AFC Telford United last month.
