BANGOR City's chief scout Alan Lewer has replaced former Airbus UK Broughton director of football as manager of Southport, who were relegated from the National League last season.

Preece, who was only appointed in February, was relieved on his post at the end of the season but told he was welcome to 'apply for the manager's position next season'.

Lewer has previous experience at the helm of Weymouth, Histon and Forest Green Rovers and arrives Haig Avenue to work with Mark Wright, the former Liverpool and England defender, who is head of development at the club.

Lewer was drafted into Bangor in July 2016 by the club's new owners having previously worked with sponsor Stephen Vaughan at Chester City.
