THE New Saints have released Romanian defender Mihai Leca, who joined the club on transfer deadline day in January.

The first-ever player from Romania to play in the Welsh Premier League, the 25-year-old made two full and three substitute appearances for the Saints.

After playing as a junior with Steaua Bucarest, the 24-year-old started his senior career with Concordia Chiajna, making 60 appearances before a move to Otelul Galati. He then signed for Zakho FC in Iran, returing to FC Brasov in his country's second tier Liga II.

Leca also made seven appearances for the Romanian Under-21s.

"I would just like to say good luck to Leca, as he is a great lad and showed great bravery and character to come over from Romania to Wales," says TNS manager Craig Harrison. "He is a good player and no doubt he will get snapped up soon, it just wasn’t to be."
