CARMARTHEN Town have appointed experienced striker Craig Hughes to the coaching staff at Richmond Park.

The 35-year-old, who remains registered as a player, made his Welsh Premier debut for Barry Town in 1997 and has since scored 73 goals from 147 appearances for the Dragons, Inter Cardiff, Rhayader Town, Cwmbran Town, Port Talbot, Neath and the Old Gold.

"I'm very pleased that Craig has agreed to become a player/coach and to add some of his knowledge to our backroom management team," said Town boss Mark Aizlewood.

"I already have Neil Smothers as my right-hand man and Kevin Morris as general manager.

"Adding Craig to this group will be of benefit especially as he is still part of the first-team squad and can relate to them.

"It is important to me to have someone who can mentor the players when necessary.

"There is a three-generation gap between me and some of the younger players and Craig is just the person I need to fill that gap."
