THREE former Neath players are likely to feature as trialists for Newport County in a pre-season friendly at Undy Athletic on Friday.
A former fans’ favourite Kerry Morgan will be joined by Chris Jones and Sam Gwynne, who are all without a club after the Eagles were wound-up at the High Court last month.
Wingman Jones, 22, who started his career at Swansea City, has been capped by Wales at under-17, under-19 and under-21 level, as well as playing for the Wales Under-23 semi-pros last season.
Jones signed a permanent deal with Grimsby Town but was loaned to Neath in January 2010 before returning to Blundell Park, where he was transfer-listed, and promptly returned to the Eagles on a permanent basis, scoring 14 goals from 71 (+5) Welsh Premier appearances.
Jones, who was named in the league's dream team in 2011 and 2012, has also been interesting The New Saints and a Conference club in the Midlands.
Gwynne was on the books of his hometown club Hereford United for seven years, making more than 50 first team appearances.
A central midfielder, the 24-year-old left his hometown club for Neath last summer after a loan stint at AFC Telford United but left to finish last season at Westfields in the Midland Football Alliance.
Merthyr Tydfil-born striker Morgan came through the Swansea youth ranks to the first team squad and was loaned to Port Talbot Town in August 2007 until January 2008, when he returned to the Liberty Stadium.
He then went out on a season-long loan spell to Neath in July 2008 and opted to join Neath on his release by the Swans last summer rather than stay on at County, where he had been on loan.
Morgan was an integral part of Dean Holdsworth’s 2009-10 Blue Square South championship-winning side, scoring seven goals in 20 starts.
