New stadium boost for the Druids
Monday 08 February 2010
ELEMENTS Cefn Druids have received a boost with news that work on their new stadium is expected to start within a few weeks.
A small group of protestors have withdrawn an application for the land at The Rocks in Rhosymedre to be designated as a village green, which clears the way for the club’s existing Plaskynaston home to be developed into a Tesco Express or Metro store.
While the development comes too late to save the Ancients' application for an FAW licence this season, it means that the club can look forward to joining the Welsh Premier again at some time in the future if they can achieve success on the field.
The village green move was lodged after planning permission had been granted for a portion of the land to be used for a new stadium.
"But, by their own admission, the move was made as a protest against Tesco and had nothing to do with Druids' moving on to the land," says the club, who will make no further comment at present.
