NEWTOWN won 2-0 at The Rock on Friday night to complete a double over Cefn Druids and move back into the top six.

Two goals in the first half sealed the points for the Robins with Matthew Hearsey scoring after nine minutes, firing home from the left hand side into the top corner of the net.

Jason Oswell doubled the lead on 38 minutes with his 12th goal of the season, converting a Hearsey cross at the far post.

Hearsey was the victim of a high tackle from Peter Hoy seven minutes into the second half, a challenge which earned the Ancients' defender a red card and left the wingman a doubt for Newtown's visit to Port Talbot on Boxing Day.

Luke Boundford had a third Newtown goal disallowed midway through the second half but were good value for their win.

"These were important points for us after the disappointment of the Carmarthen defeat," said Newtown manager Chris Hughes.

"I was delighted we created so many chances, although a bit disappointed we didn't put the game out of sight by half time."
